Saving Thousands on the Internet

I recently started reading The Mom's Guide to Earning and Saving Thousands on the Internet and found some really informative information that I thought you'd benefit from. Under the chapter about Avoiding Spam, there is a recommendation that I hadn't thought of. I know once I tell it to you, you will think just like I did. I said to myself, "Oh Man! You've done that! No Wonder..."

Well, this is what I learned. The heading of the paragraph says, "Stop before you opt." It then goes on to explain that sometimes you might receive spam email with an "opt in" link or "opt out," if you will. It explains that by clicking on the opt out option, you are told that you are opting out of receiving future email or offers from said company. Well, STOP! is the word from the writers of the mom's guide. Why? Doesn't it make sense to let the emailer know you are not interested by requesting to be taken off their email list? So it would seem.

However, let me quote from The Mom's Guide to Earning and Saving Thousands on the Internet. "While many reputable companies will comply with your opt-out request, more often clicking on the removal link actually lets the spammers know that your email address is active and maintained by a living, breathing human being. This in turn will then increase the influx of spam to your mailbox."

So...what do you think about that? This is a great book for those interested in learning how to earn a living online. It's good reading.
